Located in San Francisco’s Glen Park district, a neighborhood known for its mix of urban and suburban atmospheres, the Glen Park House remodel substantially transforms this three-story two-unit dwelling by re-orienting the units vertically, slicing the house in half. A new 2-bedroom, 1.5-bath unit faces the street while a 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath unit occupies the back two-thirds of the building volume, with private access to the backyard. Both front and rear elevations will receive a new façade treatment, featuring vertical wood slats and deep orange Corten weathering steel.
Instead of each unit occupying a single floor, as in the existing layout, the design intervenes with demising walls to cut the building vertically in half, allowing separate entries, greater spatial connectivity within the units, and more privacy between apartments.
